C.1960-1969; Signed Danish Modern, signed Hans Wegner "Peacock" arm chair Model # JH550 for Johannes Jansen. The Peacock char was inspired by the traditional Windsor Chair, upon and when Danish Architect, Finn Juhl first saw this chair, he immediately noticed its characteristics back and named it, "The Peacock Chair," a name which has stuck with the chair. The Peacock chair was debuted in C. 1947, at the Copenhagen Cabinet-Makers Guild, which was a turning point in Weighers' career. The chair is made of solid Ash wood frame and turned spindles, with contrasting teak armrests, with flared legs, and a central stretcher support, while the seat is made of twined paperboard, synonymous to European seating of all kinds, such as rush seating, which includes this type of paper cord material, which has more flexibility and a give, beyond which is a crafted, and highly skilled specialty, passed on from generation to generation. Also one can see from close up imagery the dowel joinery incorporated in this chair. Makers markings/manufacturer logo are branded with Johannes Jansen markings, as last image indicates. The simplicity and the beauty of that, belies the comfort which goes hand in hand with this design, universal in aspects, but a cu above the norm.
This chair is in amazing original condition with minor wear in small area of paperboard, (indicative to period piece, normal and conducive).
It has been lovingly and amazingly cared for, within a quasi Industrial open-air office, workplace environment, and stood in a room amongst a plethora of other Scandinavian Design pieces, oriental rugs, and the likes.
No tears whatsoever. less
