Norstad received a degree in architecture from the University of Oregon and was a student of Victoria Avakian Ross. He is best known for his functional wares which were produced from his Corte Madera, California studio, and exhibited at the Syracuse Nationals in 1954, 1962, 1964 and 1966.

The platter features a fish design and is signed on the underside in brown glaze. In excellent condition.
