Crafted in France circa 1920 and attributed to Maison Jansen, the table stands on elegant forged Dagobert style legs ending with gilt painted metal paw feet, and connected with a decorative bottom stretcher. The legs are embellished with gilt painted swan head finials, and the surface is dressed with an inset stained glass top. The console is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich patinated polished steel finish with gilt accents. Versatile, the table could be used in an entry, a hallway or placed behind a sofa.
Maison Jansen was a Paris-based interior decoration office founded in 1880 by Dutch-born Jean-Henri Jansen. Jansen is considered the first truly global design firm, serving clients in Europe, Latin America, North America and the Middle East. Not originally equipped with its own workrooms for producing furniture, the firm began by relying upon antiques and the furniture contracted to outside cabinetmakers. By the early 1890s Maison Jansen had established its own manufacturing capacity producing furniture of contemporary design, as well as reproductions, primarily in the Louis XIV, Louis XVI, Directoire, and Empire styles.
