A lot of googling has led me to think this charming … more 18th Century France
9-3/8" Plate
Faience, Hand-Painted Purple Flowers
A lot of googling has led me to think this charming hand-painted plate is likely late 18th century French faience (see Strasbourg plates for comparison). It measures 9-3/8 inches wide across the embossed scalloped rim, which also has slight ribs and indents (reverse ribs) with an embossed edge. The flowers are gorgeous, in rich shades of purple and blue with dark green leaves and yellow highlights (especially the tulip).
The plate is in good condition, especially considering its age. There are several small chips and glaze flakes around the rim (mainly on the underside, see closeup photos). There are no cracks or crazing, and the hand-painted decoration is beautifully intact.
The smooth flat bottom (no foot ring of any sort) has one hand-written mark that looks like a black line or a 1. There are no other marks that I can see. less
