The piece is a whimsical tribute to the iconic silent film star. It embodies Grooms' signature style of vibrant colors and exaggerated forms. From a private collection. Red Grooms is an American multimedia artist best known for his colorful pop-art constructions depicting frenetic scenes of modern urban life. Grooms was given the nickname "Red" by Dominic Falcone when he was starting out as a dishwasher at a restaurant in Provincetown and was studying with Hans Hofmann. He has exhibited in many prominent museums including the MoMA, The MET, Art Institue of Chicago and The Whitney Museum of American Art. See less
