Bell jar lanterns first reached popularity in colonial India and due to their lingering popularity, production has continued to the present.
The glass disc at the top was originally to catch smoke from candles or oil, but in electric era remained as a purely decorative element.
This lantern is made of delicately blown frosted glass, 7” diameter, etched with a Greek key pattern. The glass is suspended by 3 beak-like hooks on an ornate ring. It has a 3 light cluster in the center. Metal is finished in nickel. See less
