Attractive appearance, with nicely aged warm heavily worn distressed patina over the whole. As-Is. Retaining original antique character and charm throughout, wear consistent with age and use; stable when not rotating but top wobbles somewhat, slightly tilted/mildly warped top and/or supports make rotating the tabletop feel little unsteady and wobbly, nothing that bad but noticeable. Significant wear to edges and finish with scattered losses. Typical evidence of old powder post beetle pinholes to base. Approx one inch chip to marble top. Overall a charming example full of old character and charm less

A charming late 19th century French rotating bookshelf round table in the manner of Gabriel Viardot (1830-1904) with beautifully aged heavily worn distressed patina.
France, circa 1870, celebrating the Second Empire Napoleonic Indochina conquests and following the forced reopening of foreign trade with Japan in 1858, the ensuing Japonisme craze spread throughout Europe in the 1860s and 1870s, where exotic far east Asian orientalist styles (Chinese Chinoiserie / Japanese Japanesque) hea became a most popular trend and influenced furniture design, having a circular inset rouge red marble top with attractive white veining and molded wooden border and pierced apron, over ebonized solid wood turned pedestal with two tiers of four bookshelves, each shelf with incised detailing and reticulated raised gallery, rising on tripod base, terminating in carved lion paw feet.
Interesting design that allows for the top and two tiers to all turn independently.
