Stunning limited edition lithographic collotype by important female American printmaker and artist Clare Romano, best known for her prints and paintings of colorful abstract landscapes, primarily of dramatic land formations in the American Southwest. This is entitled “Dusk Canyon” and measures 30" x 22" printed on fine paper. Signed, titled and numbered 33/150 along the bottom edge. Sold unframed. Condition of the print is excellent with no visible damage. It will be shipped rolled with acid free paper in a tube, fully insured. Please ask any and all questions prior to offer or purchase.
Clare Romano (1922–2017) was an exceptional female American printmaker and painter with works in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum and internationally. Born in New Jersey, she started her art education as a painter at Cooper Union. Later she worked for Bauhaus artist Herbert Bayer. In 1949, she learned printmaking at the well-known Robert Blackburn Studio in New York. Her work won many honors. An educator, she taught at the Art Center of Northern New Jersey, Pratt Graphics Center, Pratt Institute and the New School in New York. In addition to a large body of printed and painted works, she also illustrated many books of poetry, philosophy and mythology. She was married to John Ross, with whom she collaborated in writing The Complete Printmaker, The Complete Collagraph and a number of limited edition artists’ books. less
