This basket was collected from the estate of a former Ambassador to the African country of Chad and is in excellent condition. These deep baskets are used in ceremonies, primarily weddings, and are also used for collecting cereals during harvest.
Use as a rustic display basket, for storage, or even as a recycling bin.
Woven from very strong water grasses, these baskets are lightweight but sturdy.
The Mossi people from the Sanmatenga Province of central Burkina Faso construct these interesting baskets in black (Penéiga), natural (Péraogo), or striped designs (Pégangué-Yonké).
Measures 8.5" in diameter at the base and 10.5" high, 17" diameter at the opening. less
