"Jungle / On the Way to the Ark" - Framed fabric triptych by important American artist, Helen Webber. The work is signed and dated 2.19.1980. Please see images for the location of the signature on the tapestries. Made of various heavy weight, wool, woven fabrics. Each panel measures 66" x 36" and each is framed with a custom-made black lacquer frame with corner leaf designs. Each panel measures with the frame 70"x40".
Webber is best known for her tapestries, and it is this medium that dominates the largest body of her work, which was first introduced to the design world in the mid 1970's. The tapestries utilize a collage technique combining an array of designer upholstery fabrics such as velvets, brocades, worsteds, jacquards, mohair, hand woven woolens, among many others. Yarns of all kinds are integrated into the tapestries surrounding the edges of each fabric piece. This is a very rare artwork in the oevre of the artist -- one of the few triptych tapestry works which she created. The artist created dramatic fabric works ranging from 6 feet to 65 feet. Some examples are two double sided sixty-five foot long tapestries created for a cruise ship and 4 eighteen foot long tapestries hanging in a civic center in California. Her works are exhibited in museums in the United States and internationally. Webber's works are also displayed in various other settings including worship centers/churches/temples, hospitals and health care facilities (Betty Ford Pavilion, Kaiser, Children's Hospital Oakland), corporate offices (Exon, Kodak, Merck, A T&T), Hotels (Hyatt, Radisson, Hilton), Universities (New York State University, Texas A&M, Lesley College, etc), Civic Centers (Pittsburgh Civic Center, various US Airforce Bases home and abroad, Marin City Library, etc), amongst a few.
The work was purchased directly from the artist by the current owner and it is in near new condition: it has been preserved extremely well. There is no damage to the fabric nor is there any significant fading of the fabric colors. The artist is recently deceased. There is continued and growing interest amongst collectors and art critics in her work, and the market value of her works continue to rise. This is an important, museum quality, work of art which will continue to accrue in value over time.
