They have … Read more Pair of coin silver serving spoons by famous Baltimore silversmith Littleton Holland who lived from 1770 to 1847. They have the downward curved handle associated with the American Federal Period. Although he doesn't appear in the Baltimore directory until 1802, he is believed to be making silver before that date. From 1816 to 1818 he was located at217 Baltimore Street and thereafter until his death at 13 St. Paul Street. The marks on these spoons are among his earliest marks, perhaps even his earliest. The mark is "LHolland" in script in a rectangle with rounded ends and the impressed Baltimore eagle. Baltimore began assaying silver in 1814.



The spoons are in good condition, showing wear to the tips of the bowls and other small dents and imperfections. The handle tips have engraved initials and may be original. The name and the Baltimore eagle are on the reverse, and are well struck and clear. The spoons are 9.5"long and weigh 2 ounces each. See less
