The commode is similar to those made by Francois Mondon, a noted French cabinetmaker who lived from 1694 to 1770. The commode retains its original bronze ormolu mounts and a very old, if not original(one inch thickness), breche de violette marble. The size and proportion of the commode with its serpentine front and flared sides is outstanding. All to often a piece such as this is too low, too long, or too deep. The kingwood veneers are arranged in an elaborate parquetry pattern that visually enhances the piece. The secondary woods are oak(drawers) and pine (dust boards and elsewhere). The measurements are 35"high X 51"wide(marble) X 24"deep(marble). less
