A precious, Cape Cod treasure, painted by listed American Primitive, Folk Artist, Peter Hunt (1896-1967). He lived in Provincetown (P-Town) Massachusetts for most of his life. Anyone who knew him remembers him for his amazing artistic talent, good looks, charm, wit and knack for outrageous storytelling. He used to walked his two Afghan Dogs in the P-Town streets while wearing a flowing black cape and a wide rimmed black hat. His art adorned furniture, fabrics, chairs, trays, walls and much more. His work is currently on exhibit in P-Town’s Pilgrim Museum as well as the Museum of Modern Art. He was an author and teacher, as well. This cradle was painted in 1963 and signed Peter Hunt, Anno 1963. It depicts a black child holding a rattle and sleeping under a checkered quilt. It is decorated with hearts, stars, flowers and foliage. There is a sunburst under the hood and even the cradle rockers are decorated. Is in excellent condition with period wear and patina, consistent with age and use. No serious damage.
