The paint appears to be all original but may have been added at a later date, as it reflects the authentic wear and patina that only centuries can bring. Some losses, knicks and scrapes, the locking mechanism is not intact, and one of the hinges (one of the four) has pulled out. However, it is overall a very solid and usable piece of furniture. The inside of the chest is rough hewn so it is possible that it could snag delicate linens or blankets. less
