Valérie Dementhon Avant-Garde Pair of Side Chairs Edition NORD-SUD France 1990s This is a very special sculptural pair of side chairs by Valérie Dementhon (1965 -) for French high-end niche brand NORD-SUD, designed and produced in the early 1990s. The design of these sculptural chairs seamlessly blends whimsical elements like the horns in resin with classical references and ends up being both eclectic and sophisticated. They show unconventional materials and playful forms with hints to surrealism. These chairs are more than just traditional furniture, they are sculptures in their own right, showcasing a blend of organic shapes and a luxurious finish - just look at that rich alcantara upholstery on the seats - that challenge conventional aesthetics. In the 1980s and 1990s, French avant-garde furniture design flourished, marked by bold experimentation and a fusion of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary innovation.
