Stunning pair of hand-carved wooden foo dogs from Taiwan. Each is beautifully crafted showing intricate detail -- from the expressiveness of the face to the curled strands of the mane. Each has a gorgeous, rich hue and both are in good condition, showing no chips or significant damage.
The sticker on the bottom reads, "Made in Taiwan, Republic of China," making them pre-1949.
Symbolic, protective statues, foo dogs are traditionally designed in pairs. The female represents yin, and is intended to protect the people inside the home, while the male represents yang and protects the structure itself.
Each of these beautiful vintage foo dogs measures 9" long, 10" tall and 4.5" wide.
