Having a conker brown padded … Read more A charming C19th Mahogany Library or Desk Chair by Heal’s of London from the 1880’s. Having a conker brown padded leather back on a solid mahogany frame. The deep cut saddle seat and the nicely formed serpentine arms are particularly nice features. The chair stands on four baluster turned legs joined by an attractive crinoline stretcher, the legs terminate with brass caps and ceramic castors. This is the third time we have stocked this model and they are becoming harder to find. This particular chair was illustrated in the ‘Pictorial Dictionary of British 19th Century Furniture Design’ which dates the chair at 1884 and attributes it to the Heal’s London. The firm was the forerunner of the modern day retailer. Condition wise wear is commensurate with age, the bottom left corner of leather has a small loss as shown in the photos which doesn’t overly detract from the chair.
