It originally appeared as part of a featured notebook of haute couture designs for a French magazine that dates to 1946. It is NOT a recent reproduction print. The print showcases a summer dress with a multi-tiered layered feature and a halter style neckline. The design has a calligraphic motif. Note the flair and movement of the dress. Note too, the playful imagery and interchange with the model and the cherub! The design was illustrated and signed by Rene Gruau. Gruau was perhaps the most well-known fashion illustrator in the mid-century years. He worked with leading couturiers of the period. He is known for his strong color and graphic line drawing.
