from Sri Lanka (Ceylon)
in tested sterling silver
from the colonial period (Indian Raj)
Kandy circa 1900/1920
hand worked embossed with depiction of the mythological bird Hamsa in 4 different poses among dense interwoven decorations
on the lid is depicted an elephant always worked in repoussé
while the base is fully chiseled as usual on quality silverware of the period
