A lovely colourful harlequin pair of 1970s italian studio pottery lamps with raised pattern in mustard and green and navy blue and green - very much like bitossi in the pattern and rimini blue colour.
both signed ‘foreign’, the mustard lamp also says l.81/f.128 and has italy impressed to the base.
while we can never be 100% certain, there’s a few different signs when looking out for an original bitossi. These examples have been hand painted with brush strokes visible, while the base is slightly rough and the word “italy” has been hand carved into one of the bases. The word “foreign” is on the inside, rather than an official bitossi makers mark. However, this isn’t unusual, as many bitossi pieces were made on behalf of other retailers, who wanted to retail the items as their own rather than bitossi’s, so were just marked foreign without a trace of a maker’s mark.
the lamps come with two vintage ecru coloured shades, which have some marks, which are not highlighted when lit.
overall, the lamps are in wonderful vintage condition, and have been rewired and are ready to use. The beautiful raised pattern, which runs around the belly of both lamps, has a couple of very minor nibbles to the pattern, which i’ve tried to show in the last couple of images.
measurements: 54cm h (inc shade) 37cm top of bulb holder. 35.5cm diameter (shade) 17cm diameter (pottery body)
