This exquisitely handcrafted two-toned mid-century Murano chandelier has five undulating arms emerging from the central bowl. Glass leaves embellish this chandelier, blooming up and over the bottom from the bulbous center column. The prominent center bowl and cups are speckled with brown spots, reminiscent of tortoise-shell patterns. This pattern is formed by rolling the molten glass in colorful glass pieces before hand-blowing the piece. As the glass form is shaped, the colorful chips stretch and soften in appearance.
The warmth and organic feel of the tortoise-shell pattern invites comfort into a space, helping to soften modern environments and complement natural materials like wood, leather, and stone.
The glasshouses on the island of Murano are famous for highly ornamented glass chandeliers made of pincered and molded blown glass. The amber and brown hues were achieved by adding selected metal oxides to the silica during melting. To achieve the colors, an incredible amount of accuracy is required in terms of proportions and timing. Such an elegant fixture showcases a mastery of Venetian glass craftsmanship. This piece demonstrates a delicate conversion of modern and Baroque-style design still loved by many.
Elevating any interior with a dappled warm glow when illuminated, this faux tortoise-shell and amber chandelier is truly mesmerizing. It would be a captivating addition to any dining room, living room, or study.
