Very exceptional decorated goldscheider art deco ceramic figure of the 1920's: depiction of a standing lady in oriental garb, proudly looking to the side, wrapped in a large blue-green scarf reaching down to the floor, which is held firmly in place by a headdress with an incorporated snake head, covering her hair, underneath she wears harem pants in yellow with shades of pink, held in place by a belt of white and black jagged ribbons, with a tight bustier hung with black pearl necklaces. On a black, stepped oval base, artist's signature 'lorenzl' on the back, at the bottom of the cape's hem. The model was inspired by the famous opera 'aida' by giuseppe verdi, which tells the fate of the odalisque aida, an ethiopian king's daughter taken hostage. Designed by josef lorenzl (1892 - 1950), was an austrian sculptor and ceramic modeler. His bronze statuettes often show graceful dancers with long legs and closed eyes. Lorenzl designed numerous ceramics for friedrich goldscheider and keramos and was one of the most popular artists of art deco. This model 5281 was created circa 1923/1924.
