Vintage movie poster for 1946 Samuel Goldwyn film, "The Best Years of Our Lives," starring Myrna Loy, Frederic March, Dana Andrews, Teresa Wright, Virginia Mayo, Harold Russell, and Hoagy Carmichael. It was directed by William Wyler.
This film was a massive commercial success. It became not only the highest-grossing film of 1946, but of the entire 1940s decade. It first opened to the public at the infamous Astor Theatre of New York City, on November 21, 1946. The film grossed $52,236 in its first week, and $23,650,000 over the course of its lifetime.
The film won 7 Oscars in 1947:
