Exquisite Italian Cassone in "Lion's Paw" style from the late 16th century, crafted from chestnut wood. This stunning piece features intricately carved acanthus leaves, friezes, and an ornate front frame, with the characteristic "lion's paw" front legs that reflect the style of the era.
Elegant Design:
This Italian cassone, dating back to the late 1500s, is a remarkable example of fine craftsmanship and artistic detail. Its carved edges and corners showcase elaborate acanthus leaf motifs and decorative friezes, while the front frame is adorned with exquisite carvings. The front legs, carved in the iconic "lion's paw" style, add a regal touch to this magnificent piece.
Historical Significance:
The cassone and the matching stools originate from the home of Emanuele Damaggio, Prefetto di Palermo, in the second half of the 1800s. This provenance adds significant historical value, making these pieces not only beautiful but also rich in heritage. Currently located in Redmond, WA, this furniture set has been well-preserved.
Condition:
The cassone is in good condition but shows signs of age. It is a single, non-disassemblable piece and requires waxing and polishing to bring out its full potential. Wear marks, as shown in the photos, are part of its history and integral to its charm.
Unique Opportunity:
Owning this Italian cassone means possessing a piece of history, art, and exceptional craftsmanship. Ideal for collectors or those looking to add a touch of vintage elegance to their home, this set is a rare find. Don’t miss the chance to bring this historical and artistic treasure into your living space.
This item is part of a chest and stools set that has been together for hundreds of years (search "lion's paw style"). For those who purchase both the chest and the stools, a discount of $200 is available.
NOTE: We do not have a certificate to confirm that the cassone is from the 16th century, but this is what has been passed down in our family. I was told this by my grandfather, Giovanni Damaggio.
