this landscape is signed and dated lower right charles philogène tschaggeny (brussels 1815-1894); brother of edmond, animal painter and anatomist, author of the bovine anatomical atlas for the use of artists, whose watercolor anatomical plates are at the catholic university of leuven in louvain-la-neuve. Charles philogène tschaggeny was the protégé of eugène joseph verboeckhaven the world-famous animal painter of the time, specializing in horse painting in particular and the animalier genre.
