Beautiful sofa created by the American designer Adrien Pearsall. The sofa has a unique kidney shape. They have been reupholstered with Barkcloth in 2016.
Adrian Pearsall (1925-2011), trained as an architectural engineer, was a sailor and interior designer. In 1952, Pearsall opened his own furniture company 'Craft Associates. Pearsall designed some of the most sensuous, gracious midcentury design pieces around, sharing many of the design aesthetics by Vladimir Kagan. His pieces are characterized by flamboyant curves, upswept shapes and stretched proportions.
The newer upholstery is Barkcloth, Barkcloth in its original and primitive form was made from the inner bark of trees found in the South Pacific and surrounding areas. The bark was soaked, then beaten into a paperlike fabric which was then dyed, printed or painted. The barkcloth we're familiar with today is a cotton fabric made from densely woven fibres.
This piece is a mixture of Mid-Century with a tropical Hawaiin style or Palm Springs meets Mid Century Modern with Fabulous previously upholstered Barkcloth.
Each sofa can easily seat three people comfortably or one to stretch out and get comfortable.
