Vintage: C.1960s Original Columbian, tanned saddled leather & kiln dried teak and white walnut wood, lounge, desk, and/or side chair designed by Beirmann Werner for the Manufacturer, Arte Sano Company. Also called safari, lodge or hunting chairs. The chestnut, brown quasi-sienna saddle leather coloration, has the ingrained normal wear of a chair that has been lovingly sat in, time and again, the beauty of this type of leather, with interwoven leather strips, that are in the x-mitered stitched details throughout, as images indicate. The seat and seat back rest have been intertwined within a mainframe of wood and metal to withhold the structure and tension, wear and use either in rugged, outdoor covered or open surround , and/or for interior use, as well as dowel joinery. The crossbars stretchers are a combo teak and white walnut, with tapered legs, much like one would use as stakes, but the minute detail of an incised linear surround to each leg is an added detail. The saddle leather, production, manufactured period for this chair either an arm or armless part of the collection's production period was between 1960-69. Werner immigrated in 1939 from Germany, to South America, primarily, Bogota, Columbia, whereupon he founded Beirmann Industries, with the mindset to experiment in Furniture Design, within a Scandinavian mindset, in South America, also a component that drew many Designers of their time within South America, much like the Bauhaus Movement did in Europe, among many known movements in Europe, which spawned a crop of Designers into many genres and styles within a social wave movement or dichotomy. In is with this hope and mindset, via through design and founding a design esthetic movement, the likes of what Europe's fervor of design mobilized in it's time, became to be know in South America. These pieces have a minimal, yet industrial and brutalist aspect, but ensconced securely within the Scandinavian movement.
This piece came from a Palm Beach Island, Florida Estate, filled with minimal pieces, Mid-Century, teak, safari, and eclectic pieces galore.
There are scuff marks, crackling, (normal to the time, in use and wear), worn wear to the leather, which enhances the age, but does not detract from sturdiness or comfort. We polished the wood with teak oil to restore the inherent quality of this wood utilized, and clean dup the leather.
SEAT INTERIOR DEPTH: Is from leather front edge to leather seat edge.
