This iconic mid-century modern cat figurine is the creation of the famous art director of Flavia Montelupo aka Bitossi Ceramiche — Aldo Londi. The master ceramist was the creative director of Bitossi Ceramiche for more than 50 years. He was a tireless teller of feelings/intuitions, devoting his entire life to art: he was a painter, sculptor, and most of all a ceramicist.
This is the Scavo version of the cat, unglazed, with a geometric pattern on both sides. The beautiful small imperfections are from the creation process and occur naturally with this organic style of pottery.
This version was made before the Rimini Blue glazed series, in 1955.

Short history: Founded in 1921 by Guido Bitossi, Flavia Montelupo produced traditional renaissance-style maiolica and terracotta wares up to the Second World War.
From 1946 to 1976, under the artistic direction of Aldo Londi, the factory collaborated with several outside artists — including Ettore Sottsass, Remo Buti, Marco Zanini, and Matteo Thun.
Starting in 1976 the factory produced high-quality commercial ceramics for the Rosenthal Studio, under the name 'Ceramiche Flavia'.
In the 1980s Giovanni Masone took over as artistic director, inviting the members of the Memphis Group to collaborate, as well as Piero Fornasetti.
