This beautiful quilt was discovered in Marin County, CA. It is all handstitched with beautiful patriotically colored calico prints, plaids, chambray, and indigo solids. Be sure to look at the close-up photos to see the great fabrics this quilt is made of.
In 1863, Log Cabin quilts became very popular to help raise funds for the Union Army during the American Civil War. It was thought to be in honor of Abraham Lincoln, who grew up in a log cabin. This quilt is hand-stitched and quilted. Note the beautifully stitched border.

This comes from the archives of Deirdre Coughlin, founder of Phoebe’s Closet. She specializes in antique textiles and sold them to many New York City Designers including Ralph Lauren (that’s how I know her,) Charlotte Moss, Martha Stewart, and Schumacher, among many others.
