The textile was joined with old woven ikat panels and apparently newer embroidery panels in the style of a ceremonial tapis from Lampung people in Southern Sumatra. It was most likely made in the 20th century as a decorative piece. The embroidery panel depicts long sea-faring boats that carry human figures, reflecting the coastal region's trade tradition and a wide cultural interaction and exchange with far-reaching places.
Examining the piece closely, the ikat panels shows a lot of wear, patina and repairs and the embroidered panels are in relatively good condition, indicating the textile was probably re-joined with old and new material instead of being a ceremonial skirt tapis that has seen authentic use, which is extremely rare and pricey. The panel makes a great bespoken decorative piece for any interior.
