It was in very … Read more This late 19th Century chest of drawers came from an upscale rural estate in southern Virginia. It was in very good condition when we found it; however the exterior finish displayed all the dings and flaws of over a century of wear and tear. Consequently, we opted to paint the surface. The chest was hand painted by South African artist Mornet de Wet with three shades of grey and blue paint, including French blue and marine blue. It was then sanded to achieve the aged finish that you see in the photographs. Although the magnolia flowers appear to be painted directly onto the painted surface of the chest, our resident artist achieved that look by utilizing a decoupage technique. We found simple nickel drawer pulls that were perfect for the period of the piece. The dimensions of this chest make it useful not only as a chest of drawers in your bedroom, but also as a buffet or console -- in the dining room or front hall. The piece measures 38.5 inches wide, 33.375 inches tall, and 16.25 inches deep. It is solidly built, all wood, and even has dovetailed drawers. See less
