For most of its history, Takatori-ware has been predominantly associated with tea utensils. With the establishment of the Nishi-sarayama kiln group, other more utilitarian wares began to enter production. Nowadays, it is common to see a wide variety of ceramics produced in the Takatori-style. A strong connection to the tea ceremony prevails, with tableware and drinking vessels showing shapes and glazes often reserved for tea utensils.
This guinomi sake cup is glazed with a brown ame iron glaze. Smooth and glossy; the perfect companion cup for a strong drink.
