Tenmoku is the Japanese reading of Tienmu, a mountain in Zhejiang, China. The temple on this mountain was famed for using Jian ware bowls for drinking tea. This style of bowl proliferated the Song dynasty; their high-value and regard is well documented as the Yongle Emperor sent ten of these bowls to Ashikaga Yoshimitsu (1358-1408).
Glossy black Tenmoku shaped chawan with iron-brown lip; a perfect fit in the hands for enjoying a bowl of tea.
