This soba choko is decorated with flower illustrations in underglaze iron oxide. Above, a shrivelled and grainy glaze called 'kairagi' (literally, “plum-blossom bark”) coats the cup. This glaze effect is most pronounced on the crescent-moon foot, where it gathers nicely.
