Chinese porcelain landscape bitong, a finely formed brush pot with gently sloping sides, a white glazed interior and circular inset centered on the unglazed base. The body of the pot is decorated with a finely drawn, blue and white landscape with distant mountains, a waterfall, and rivers and lakes, featuring a boatman, three picnickers and two travelers amid trees, pines and shrubs. The landscape scenes are bracketed above and below with double trim rings. A blue, Yu Tang Jia Qi, Wanli era place mark, is glazed to the circular inset of the base. The finely carved, traditional, Chinese, hongmu stand is included. Circa Republic of China period, or earlier.
Yu Tang Jia Qi: Beautiful Vessel for the Jade Hall - refers to the Hanlin Yuan, or Brush Wood Court, established during the Tang Dynasty by the Xuanzong Emperor. Its best scholars were close advisors and confidential aides to Emperors until its closure in 1911. It was staffed by over 100 scholars who were tasked by the Imperial Court and also interpreted the Confucian Classics which formed the basis of the Imperial Examination System.
