Maurice model / verdun / primaflore: art deco chandelier in silvered bronze and pressed-molded glass. The chandelier offered here for sale is made in the 1930s, consisting of a silver-plated cast bronze frame with a floral theme. Five branches with a square section with three wall lights with floral decorations. A bail cover suspended from a chain ending in a bronze pavilion which takes up the plant motifs of the wall lights. The glassware signed “primaflore france” is composed of a central basin and three tulips in molded-pressed glass, frosted white satin. The “primaflore” signature is a production by maurice model in his cristallerie de verdun. This model of flowered glassware was a dear theme of maurice model which he reproduced in different models throughout his production. It is believed that the “primaflore” signature was intended for a special order for the grands magasins du printemps in paris and not a production line which was intended for wider marketing to various lighting manufacturers. Moreover, under this signature, there is only this model, often available in basin and tulips. The four light points have a bayonet socket with b22 base.
la cristallerie de verdun was located at 10 rue dame-zabée in verdun, it was created by maurice jules model (paris, 1900 – 1973) in 1928. Model began its activity in 1923 with the company model et lange at 64 boulevard de ménilmontant, a luminous flower and shell workshop. From 1925, his company became établissements maurice model and the new facilities were located at 18 rue des fêtes, until the cessation of activity during the second war. In the verdun factory, model manufactured art glassware, particularly lighting glassware. He also directs these creations in the presentation of displays and glass showcases of which he is at the origin of their transformations. He will also create luxury bottles for perfumes from great french fashion designers. In the process, maurice model created a lighting company whose facilities were made available to military aviation in 1939. Most of model's creations were intended for export, but not only that. The cristalleries de verdun were heavily damaged during the bombing of june 15, 1940; thereafter, they remained permanently closed. The lighting glassware, often signed “m. Model verdun”, “verdun”, “verdun france” are very remarkable in the production of lighting glassware between the two wars, because they have a very fine grain frosted surface. Which gives a satin appearance to the glass. We often find the same pieces signed or unsigned, and sometimes even the same model with the signature of another lighting manufacturer.
