It is a solid sturdy table that has all its signs and scars of age but has outlasted generations of users. It has nice hand-carved features but is simple in design with nice craftsmanship. Perfect for a farmhouse, cottage, or primitive decor it still maintains lots of charm. It is sturdy and has many more years of use left in it. It has a primitive Southern vibe and the chestnut wood has a warm inviting natural tone. It has square nail and joint construction with a dovetailed drawer and chamfered drawer bottom. The legs are hand-turned and the bottom shelf skirt is hand-cut and shaped. See less

The solid chestnut plank top and shelf have split over the years but the pieces are attached tightly with original square nails. It does have stains and splotches on the top surface and the lower top shelf surface. It does not appear to be refinished but at some point a clear finish has been applied in a thin coat over the original finish. Perhaps to preserve the table as it was. I believe the newer clear coat is lacquer. A few new thin nails have been added to one side of the dovetailed jointed drawer as support and to the back of the drawer bottom to attach it to the back drawer board. The drawer pulls are not original but are older knobs. The original knobs were plug knobs and the larger holes in the drawer front have been filled with dowels and redrilled. There appears to be a filled hole in the drawer front top center. Perhaps that was where the original knob was located but was not practical so 2 knobs were added a long time ago. Little restoration has been done. less
