French Gagneau bronze-mounted Napoleon III-style celadon ceramic table lamp with pâte-sur-pâte floral bouquet decoration on both the front and back. It bears a clear signature, 'Gagneau 115 R. Lafayette,' on the bronze fitting. Gagneau, renowned for their fine bronzes and oil lamps, was founded in Paris in 1839 by brothers Edouard and François Gagneau.
Pâte-sur-pâte, a French term translating to 'paste on paste,' is a relief decorating technique in which the design is meticulously built up by applying successive layers of liquid clay with a brush. This technique was introduced in Europe around 1850 at Sèvres, where it was perfected by Marc-Louis Solon, who later worked for Minton.
The lamp has been electrified and is in excellent working condition, as shown.
