Wedgwood's trade name Argenta, derived from Argentum, the Latin name for silver, aptly reflects the appearance of this precious metal in the new glaze color. This lovely piece is versatile, serving as an attractive wall plate for a country style kitchen, a stylish addition to a china cabinet, or a valued addition to an English majolica collection. It also makes for a thoughtful gift for fellow majolica collectors. The underside bears distinctive marks, including an impressed English Registry mark, impressed codes (including the letter D for the year 1878), WEDGWOOD, and a hand-painted pattern number 2789.
