Giovanni Stefano Danedi, known as Montalto (Treviglio, 1612 - Milan, 1690) Madonna with Child and angels Oil on panel, without frame cm. 58 x 36 - with frame cm. 83 x 61 19th century shaped and gilded wooden frame Expertise by Anna Orlando Publications: Sketches, models, sketches: from the Giorgio Baratti Collection curated by Anna Orlando, Agnese Marengo and Annalisa Scarpa, Genoa, 2022 , pp. 28, 29. The painting depicts the Madonna and Child sitting on a throne of clouds. A group of angels soars to crown her in an atmosphere of diffused and diaphanous light. The wonderful panel in question has been attributed by critics to Stefano Danedi, known as Montalto, at the beginning of his artistic career, a period particularly influenced by the style of the great Lombard masters such as Francesco Cairo (1607 - 1665), Giulio Cesare Procaccini (1574 - 1625 ) and Pier Francesco Mazzucchelli, known as Morazzone (1573 - 1626).
