Signed lower Right, Nina, K Griffin. Titled on the reverse, White Hydrangea. Painted circa 1940-50. This particular style was indicative of the times. She has depicted a single potted White Hydrangea plant in front of a dramatic gray backdrop that helps produce the pop of the white flowers and green leaves. Possibly part of a Whitney exhibition due to the inscription on the back.

Good overall condition. No visible rips, tears, or restorations. Wear consistent with age. Structurally sound. No visible crazing or surface paint loss. Minor cosmetic wear to the silver leafed frame.

Measures approximately with frame 3" deep x 29.5" wide x 35.5" high. The canvas measures approximately 24.25" wide x 30.25" high. The framing treatment consists of a beautifully silver leafed incised wood molding with white wood fillet.

Nina Kickbusch Griffin was born in Wausau, Wisconsin. Studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. Had criticism from Charles Rosen, Victor Higins. Studied with Wayman Adams, Arnold Blanche, Kuniyoshi, Jerry Farnsworth and others.

Has traveled extensively in Europe, spending six months at a time. Traveled in Alaska, Canada, the U.S.A. Bermuda, Jamaica, Guatemala, Cuba, Haiti, Virgin Islands, etc. Had over thirty five one man shows across the country. Member Allied Artists of America, New York Art Association, New Orleans, Washington D.C. Watercolor Club, Chicago Art Institute, Chicago Arts Club and others. Pictures in many private collections all over the country. Extensive publicity including articles in Paris Magazine.

Work has won many awards. Is listed in "Who's Who in American Art", in "Who's Who of Women of Achievement" and in Dictionary of International Biography of London. Is on Drama League Board, Three Arts CubBoard and the Friendly Aid Board.
