Hand made in Maryland by David Iatesta Studio, this custom size 'Magothy' Etagére is solid mahogany with a metal X at back and five fixed shelves that get deeper from top to bottom, creating a graceful waterfall effect. This timeless and versatile piece looks stunning with just a few favorite items displayed, and it can also hold a surprisingly large collection of books and objects without appearing cluttered. The overall proportions and shelf spacing are superb.
This etagére was custom built for me, all in one piece, by Iatesta Studio in 2011, and has been carefully pampered ever since; the wood finish still has its soft warm glow, with no noticeable scratches, nicks, or signs of wear. It is no surprise this classic style is still being produced at Iatesta Studio today, where the retail price runs $13,000.
Dimensions at the largest point are 49.5" W (at the bottom of the curved foot) x 16.125" D (at the bottom of the curved foot) x 90" H. The main piece is 48" W x 15" D x 90" H. Height between each shelf is 15". Shelf depth (from highest to lowest) are: top shelf 8", 2nd shelf 9.75", 3rd shelf 11.3125", 4th shelf 13.25", bottom shelf 15."
A bit of background from their website: Iatesta Studio has a long history of bespoke furniture designs to-the-trade, leveraging the talents of in-house artisans, makers, and artists. At the heart of each piece is the finish, which goes beyond application and layers; it is part vaticination (continually predicting the future outcome) while controlling the material, medium, temperature, and ambient humidity. In essence, it is Art meets Alchemy. less
