With its classic shape and unglazed finish … more This vintage (possibly antique) terracotta olive oil jar was purchased in Southwest France. With its classic shape and unglazed finish and its distinctive grooved top and side handles, this lidded jar will bring a note of rustic charm wherever it’s displayed.

The lid of the jar is printed with the word ‘Vichy,’ which may indicate that the vessel was produced as a souvenir olive oil pitcher for long-ago visitors to the spa region of Vichy in Central France. The jar’s patina adds to its aged look and the irregular surface coloration may also indicate that at one time there was a label (or labels) affixed to the jar. The age of the jar is unknown, but the base is penciled with a date: ‘Octobre 1929.’ (See photo) less
