J. J. Borghetto the alchemist and the snake hunter in pendant 1945 pair of medium-format paintings of french provenance; the former depicts an alchemist rather than a pharmacist or chemist sitting in his laboratory amidst test tubes and stills. The elegantly dressed man is seated at a table intent on writing. In the lower right within a cartouche we find the inscription homo versutus scientiam celat. Prov. Xii v7. Below the signature j.j. Borghetto juin 1945.
the second painting with the same dimensions, depicts three men in nordic clothing intent on catching snakes with the aid of forked sticks and spring pliers to store them in a shoulder bag. In the lower left within a cartouche we find the inscription coleban mutos serpentes sap. Ii. V16. In the opposite corner is borghetto's signature. This piece has an attribution mark,
