This original pastel painting on canvas is a beautiful example of lauded artist Laura Coombs Hills' work. Framed in an antiqued gold frame behind glass with linen matting. Signed top left.
Laura Coombs Hills (1859-1952) was an American artist and a very important figure in women's role in the art world. Recognized for her watercolors and pastels she specialized in flower still life paintings and miniature portrait paintings on ivory. She was the first miniature painter elected to the Society of American Artists. Her papers are in the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution and in the Historical Society of Old Newbury in Newburyport. less
