BIOGRAPHY: Lucien Laurent-Gsell, (Paris, 1860 - 1944), French painter and illustrator. He entered the E?cole des Beaux-Arts where he studied under Caspar Gsell (his father) and Alexandre Cabanel. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Franc?ais in 1881, the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1889, and the Socie?te? Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1909. As the nephew of Louis Pasteur, he painted various scenes at the Pasteur Institute as well as attending the ateliers of Max Jacob, Guillaume Apollinaire, and Henri Rousseau, among others. He was appointed Navy painter in 1911. His works are in the permanenet collections of the Muse?e d'Orsay and The Louvre, Department of Graphic Arts (Muse?e du Louvre, De?partement des Arts graphiques). less
