Alfredo barbini large 'scavo' murano glass table lamp italy 1970s this is a stunning and monumental murano glass table lamp by renowned glass artist alfredo barbini, made in the 1970s. A majestic design showing off the qualities of the barbini company in all the different glass blowing techniques used for this lamp - from the very beautiful base in ‘scavo’ glass to the opaline half sphere and the milky and dream like hat shaped shade on top. A very refined design with ideal proportions - imposing and elegant from every angle. 'scavo' literally means 'excavated' and what was intended with this method of glass processing is to achieve a result that resembles excavated centuries-old glass that comes out of the ground during an ancient excavation. Alfredo barbini (1912-2007) was one of the leading figures in mid century murano glass blowing. Before he started his own business in 1950 he worked for various high-end glass houses like s.a.i.a.r. Ferro toso, zecchin-martinuzzi, cenedese and salviati. Bought by the original owners at the end of the 1970s, this table lamp is looking timeless and modern although approaching the 50 years old mark. The lamp comes in a very good condition with only very minor signs of use and age. It is signed at the shade, both engraved and with a sticker. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
