The porcelain, however, … moreThis 94 year old sink is in very good overall condition, with little corrosion to be found. The porcelain, however, will need to be "redone". When we acquired this piece we were amazed at the condition of the porcelain and come to find out that is because it had been refinished. After several applications of acid to remove the outer layer and get down to the actual sink, we got what must be very close, but not all the way. The acid was sprayed on and scrubbed off over an 8 hour period, so we decided to finally leave it alone. The surface is not as shiny as if it were porcelain and shows slight marks from the application of the product. We finally decided to go with it the way it stands because the sink on the whole is in fine shape. The only "ding" to be found is on the left side, where we tested a small spot to see what we were looking at. The is rest is very good. What stands out is the lack of corrosion for a sink of this age. There is no rust at the drain hole, or the faucet and handle holes and even the water overflow grill is rust free indicating that the unseen interior is in very good shape. The underside was left as it was found to show that this area is relatively corrosion free. The pedestal (AKA leg) is in nearly mint condition, with virtually no blemishes to be found. The faucets were too far deteriorated so they were removed, but the drain plug handle looks good, and the mechanical pieces that hook up to it are in very good, usable condition. less

There are products that are supposed to make a porcelain sink look like new again. These range from under $50 to $250+. We have not attempted to do this as our thing is finding old, hard to come by sinks in good condition.
