Pair of iconic antique iron sunburst metal garden chairs also referred to as "pinwheel spring" chairs, "Casablanca" or "Grey Gardens" patio chairs. Francois Carre patented these chairs in 1866. This set is believed to be antique and original, not the 1940's version, differentiated by the form of the legs. The iron has a rich patina and it has all the original form, spring, bounce and strength. They are comfortable chairs as the design utilizes thin steel bands to provide cushion and flex on both the seat back and seat bottom when sitting. True sculptural pieces! Seats 17"H. Estimated early 1900s.
Very good vintage condition with all metal slats attached. Each chair has a single slat that has torn on the top side (shown), but breaks do not go all the way through. less
