The etching has been … Read more A stunning original etching and aquatint by the acclaimed Austrian artist Ernst Fuchs dating from 1991. The etching has been printed on paper which has been embossed with the maker's marks. The print has been hand colored with aquatint in rich shades of browns. It features the Biblical character of Salome reclining naked on a bed and resting her hand on the head of Saint John the Baptist. There is a dog laying on the floor on the foreground and a creature with a man's head peering out from under the bed. The print has been signed by the artist on the lower right corner and numbered 113/125. There is a certificate of authenticity from the Italian Bora editions attached to the reverse side of the print.

Ernst Fuchs (1930 - 2015) was an Austrian painter, draftsman, printmaker, sculptor, architect, stage designer, composer, poet, and one of the founders of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism. Fuchs' drawing and painting skills are based on works from the past, from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. His paintings and graphics, executed with masterly detail, display strong religious and mythological symbolism. Around 1978, a new phase of his work began, characterized by the use of bright colors, simpler compositions and sometimes exaggerated figures from ancient and Germanic mythology.
